Installation Instructions

The Window Master program has three main components. Paradox full version or Paradox Run Time is required, the application itself, which resides on the local station, and the network folders where all the data is stored. To install Window Master:

  1. Create a folder on a network drive called “Network”. This folder should have full access rights to Window Master users. Extract the network files here.

  2. Create a folder on the same network drive called “WMUpdate”. This is where updates are distributed from. When you post updates from your Administrator station, this is where the update is stored.

  3. Create a folder on the same network drive called “Pdoxusrs”. This is where the Network Control files will be.

  4. Create a folder on the c: drive of each local station called c:\Paradoxl. Paradoxl stands for Paradox Local and is where the application is kept. Extract the application files here.

  5. Install Paradox or Paradox Runtime.

  6. Run the BDE administrator from the control panel.

  7. Set the NET DIR to the path on the network control drive and folder you created.

  8. Set the local share to True.

  9. Close the BDE Administrator and be sure to respond Yes to “Save all edits to BDE Administrator”.

  10.  Launch Paradox or Paradox Runtime.

  11.  Select [File][Working Directory] and set the working directory to c:\paradoxl.

  12. Select [Tools][Alias Manager] and create a “net” alias pointing to your network folder on the server (\\ServerName\ShareName\Network).

  13.  Select [Tools][Alias Manager] and create an “updte” alias pointing to your WMUpdate folder on the server. (\\ServerName\ShareName\WMUpdate).

  14. Create a shortcut to “WMStart.ssl” in the c:\paradoxl folder. This is the shortcut to start the application.

Trouble Shooting

If problems are encountered it is usually a problem with the network control within Paradox. Paradox controls multiple applications on a network with .lck and .net files. These files will either have the name paradox or pdoxusrs. First close paradox on the station experiencing the problem and delete all paradox.lck and pdoxusrs.lck files as well as paradox.net and pdoxusrs.net. If the problem still persists, close all sessions of paradox on all stations. Delete all .lck and .net files on each station. Then delete the .lck and .net files from the network folders on the server as well.

Caution: Other programs use .lck and .net files to. Only delete files with the name Paradox or Pdoxusrs.

There is a tool to delete these files in the c:\Paradoxl folder. Create a shortcut to c:\paradoxl\dlcknet.exe and execute it when you want to delete .lck and .net files. Note: Paradox must always be shut down before executing this tool.
